What is Phenolic plastic material?

Phenolic plastic or micarta is a laminate plastic created when linen, paper, fiberglass or other fabrics are impregnated with PF resins (Phenol formaldehyde). This is then cured under pressure and high temperature to create the thermoset plastic laminate. Phenolic laminates are very strong while offering excellent heat, stress, and chemical resistance.

What is micarta or phenolic plastic used for?

Phenolic laminates tolerate extremes temperatures, are moisture-resistant and provide excellent electrical insulation making it a popular choice in electric and semiconductor applications. It can also be manufactured in a wide variety of colors and doesn’t become brittle over time make it a popular choice for countertops and tool & knife handles in consumer applications.
